The Pledge

File image courtesy: Jason Bailey

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

So far in April, nine American service members have made the ultimate sacrifice in Afghanistan while upholding the patriotic pledge that millions of schoolchildren recite each morning.

Staff Sgt. Tyler Smith, 24, Licking, Missouri
Staff Sgt. Christopher Brown, 26, Columbus, Ohio
Capt. Nicholas Rozanski, 36, Dublin, Ohio
Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Rieck, 45, Columbus, Ohio
Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Hannon, 44, Grove City, Ohio
Spc. Jeffrey White Jr., 21, Catawissa, Missouri
Cpl. Alex Martinez, 21, Elgin, Illinois
Spc. Antonio Burnside, 31, Great Falls, Montana

The ninth warrior, Cpl. Christopher Bordoni, 21, died in the hospital after being wounded in the same Jan. 18 terrorist attack that killed Cpl. Philip McGeath, who was remembered on this blog last month. Cpl. Bordoni, a brave Marine from Ithaca, New York, tragically succumbed to his injuries on Apr. 3.

With our nation still at war, let us make another solemn pledge. We will never forget all the valiant men and women who gave their last measure of devotion to the cause of freedom. As their families experience unimaginable pain and grief, let us also pray that they find some measure of comfort.

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

    2. Actually, even when Bush was in, this does not want to go on the news. Make this too unpopular. Let's not use the Democrat/Republican card on this. This is AMERICA's doing. Our society is too fricking busy watching the Kardashians....or other crap.

  2. Not sure I agree with Spfldo - Bush has many faults in the Iraq Afgan wars - we should have never gone into Iraq and should have only bombed and sent special ops into Afganistan --- Bush had personal motives -- oh I am not a liberal or an occupy nut - I am just speaking some truth - if and afganistan govt is not willing to protect Christians we need to pull out and bomb from the sea and air --- what kind of biggoted nation are we helping build

    1. If Ron Paul had been elected in 2008, none of these deaths would have occured during the past 3 1/2 yrs! And because the vast majority of people are still just as stupid now as they were then, there will be even more deaths from 2012-2016...
One would think that the parents in this country would be tired of throwing their children onto the bayonets of Israel's enemies....totally disgusting!

  6. To those visiting this blog for the first time: welcome. If you have a few moments, please feel free to look over some of the personal stories of our troops, veterans, military families, and loved ones of fallen heroes on this site.

If you want to help our military community, the Travis Manion Foundation is a wonderful organization with strong programs dedicated to doing just that. You can find more information at http://www.travismanion.com.

Thank you to The Drudge Report for stepping up to spread awareness about the ongoing sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and their families.

    1. I guess you know MORE than FBI itself who even to this day do NOT list Bin Alladin as responsible for the 9-11 attacks but let the "5 dancing Israelis" who were filming the Towers being attacked go.

Damn that pesky reality and its Liberal bias!
      Bbetter try next time!

  8. God bless our troops.
After ignoring public declarations and acts of war by Al Qaeda against us throughout the '90's, we suffered 9/11. After 16 UN resolutions and constant bombing of Iraq throughout the '90's over their WMD programs ... 9/11 was a sign that we should ignore Iraq? Bush hatred will never die.
    God bless our troops.

    1. So i guess all those piles of weapons of mass distractions that the troops found in Iraq did prove Shrub Jr was right, right?

Damn that pesky Reality and its liberal bias!

    2. Every intelligence agency around the world claimed that Iraq still had the stock piles of WMD's. Honest, intelligent people realized long ago that most of the WMD's were moved to Syria and Iran before the liberation; did you forget all of the tire tracks in the mud around the locations of the warehouses where the WMD's were stored?

Did you forget that Saddam and Iraq still had illegal weapon systems such as long range SCUD, and Silk Worm missiles they were not supposed possess per the ceasefire from the 1991 Gulf War?

Did you forget that we did find some WMD's such as 500 tons of Uranium and chemical weapons, Sarin gas for one? You must have forgotten that Saddam 'The Butcher of Baghdad' Hussein had gassed thousands of Kurds, many of whom were women and children.

Did you forget the Joe Wilson proved that Saddam was trying to restart his WMD systems while he was trying to debunk the claims made by the world’s intelligence agencies? Wilson was such an idiot.

Did you forget that Iraq had stock piles of suicide vest that they were giving to the families of suicide bombers along with $25K apiece to blow themselves up and kill innocent Israelis such as women and children?

Did you forget that Saddam and Iraq had broken the ceasefire and was shooting at US and British Pilots on a weekly basis?

Did you forget that Saddam had kicked out the UN weapons inspectors on multiple occasions?

Did you forget that Saddam and Iraq has thumbed their nose at the world and not complied with 17 UN resolutions including resolution 1441 where they were to disarm or face consequences?

Damn those pesky facts and the idiot liberals who think people have forgotten the truth.

  9. During the Bush years this would have been front page and would lead the MSM each night. But now the only way we hear about something like this is from a blog. Thank you for posting it. We are losing a lot of good folks so that the president can brag he brought the boys home and leave us with the impression there are no casualties What a joke this guy is.

    ReplyDelete
  10. So Bigalduvi??? You blame the media for not showing the casualties for the Afghan war, but blame the media for "overbroadcasting" which you blame for taking support away from the Iraq war? Please explain.

    1. So I guess you must think NBC has not been giving Obama a pass with the war. They can show death counts for Bush, but not Obama, that is all i am saying. Everyone was for the Irag war before it started you cannot be for something then one day and then when it seems tougher than we expected, we should pull out. It don't go that way. If you start it, you should finish it............... We should still have 10,000 troops there. All our blood and treasure is going to sh--. We need a sole in this country again, this nation lost it's sole. That started when we went to the free society. This been going on Since Clinton and Obama put the icing on the cake!!!

    2. If you're so INTO war then why don't you and your kids get your guns and go protect the poppy fields!!

  11. I second Tony, God Bless Our Troops.

However, I have to disagree with pkammer, Saddam Hussein and the Iraqi regime violated the cease fire on multiple occasions, was firing surface to air missiles at US and British pilots patrolling the no-fly zones on a weekly basis, had ties to terrorists organizations, funded terrorist organizations, and had hosted the same terrorist organizations at their terrorist training camps, Salman Pak for one, and was trying to reconstituted their WMD programs, we know these facts to be true.

But since Hussein Obama is POTUS the MSM does not talk about his failed policies and lack of leadership, and the on on-going deaths of US Patriots in Afghanistan would only shine a light on his failed policies and lack of leadership.

As a veteran I am very disturbed by the actions of Hussein Obama. In November of 2012 we need to elect a real leader and show Hussein the door.

    1. yet Saddam Hussein was a pal of USA up until 1989 and Rummy had no problem meeting him and shaking his hand but somehow he became an instant enemy when he attacked Kuwait. Funny how Reality works out.

    2. At the time Saddam Hussein and Iraq were at war with Iran and we did help them with recon of Iranian troop movements. We even sold Iraq farming equipment, supplies, and pesticides so they could feed their people. Are you forgetting at that time Iraq was not our enemy but Iran was? Iraq became our enemy when it invaded Kuwait who was an ally of the USA and that we had a treaty with. Maybe you should look into history before making such foolish comments.

  12. Since when is the pledge of allegiance said by military members in uniform, in formation, with hand over heart? What I remember from regs is that that is not done! Their very presence in uniform in formation IS their pledge of allegiance!

  13. Deaths in Afghanistan have increased by over 500% since Obama took office. From 6.7 to 35 a month. Where are the War Protesters that followed Bush everywhere? What happened to the day and night coverage of the War by the News Media? Why is there no criticism of the Obama Rules of Engagement, the 100,000 plus soldiers sent, or the Mission drift to Nation Building, and fighting the Taliban.

    1. Walter12 I couldn't agree more!! I was is that hell-hole called Viet Nam in 1968 as a Marine machine-gunner. It is so sad to see these men still in harm's way in that godforsaken place. It makes me weep to hear people talk in a cavalier way about the deaths of these young men. I remember the body bags--That's really the face of war--And for what!!!???????? I'd sooner see that whole country left to rot than to see another drop of our young men's blood shed.

  16. As the father of a soldier currently deployed in Afghanistan, I am appalled at the lack of coverage and lack of RESPECT the American media are giving to our brave men and women under arms. It is a sad day when in order to find out the situation our AMERICAN troops are facing, I have to rely on foreign news services and local outlets in order to not only find ACCURATE information, but ANY information! My son's company recently lost three brave men in one day, and there was NO coverage in the American press- other than local reports from the soldiers' hometowns, and from media 'blogs' buried deep within the major outlets' web sites. THis collective cover-up of what our soldiers face every day is a disseervice not only to them, but to ALL Americans, who should have what our military is going through front and center of every news report.

War is not a clinical and surgical exercise- it is dangerous, messy and not always clear-cut. But our media seem determined to portray our foreign conflicts in a purely political context, as they refuse to to even talk about anything remotely 'harmful' to the current administration's political fortunes. It is time that all Americans stand up against this propagandistic whitewash and demand fair and accurate reporting on our soldiers efforts.

  17. That whole heathen area is not worth one American Soldiers life. Bring all of our troops home and turn that Godless area into Glass.
