A Pentagon release this morning announced the death of Spc. David Croft in Baghdad, Iraq. According to the document, Croft's unit came under fire on Tuesday after terrorists blew up an improvised explosive device.

The 22-year-old Fort Hood-based soldier was from Plant City, Florida. The Plant City Courier & Tribune reports that two more soldiers with ties to the area were killed in action last year: Sgt. Samuel Valdez and Spc. Eric Lembke.

Croft's tragic death is a reminder that the war in Iraq is not over. This young man died for his country and we salute his sacrifice, as well as his family's.
