Spc. Brushaun X. Anderson, 20, of Columbus, Ga., died Jan. 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered from a non-combat related incident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.
I lived in Columbus, Georgia, for a year. It's a small, patriotic city on the border with Alabama, in the shadows of Fort Benning. A soldier being killed is always big news there, and the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer already has a story up on its website, even though details on Anderson's death are currently vague. The article does mention that Anderson left behind a mother and father.
The Post-Standard in Syracuse, New York, also has a write-up on the Fort Drum soldier. While the circumstances of his death are unclear, it is clearly a tragedy that this soldier only got to enjoy a few moments of 2010.
